Voices for Recovery

September is National Recovery month and on the 23rd of September, 2006, Westside Apostolic, pastored by James Rabe, hosted a Voices for Recovery community event.

With the support of Lane County and the cities of Eugene and Springfield, Westside opened her doors and hearts to the community by offering a free BBQ, music and entertainment. The west Eugene church, led by her Life in Focus volunteers and joined by the entire body invited the entire community through radio announcements, flyers and personal invitations to meet recovery providers from the area. Lane County department of mental health was well represented as were providers for gambling, drugs and alcohol addiction and other areas of recovery.

One highlight was keynote speaker Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy who spoke of her support for recovery programs such as Life in Focus. Her speech and a segment on the event were featured three times on the television news that evening.

Westside Apostolic was very pleased with the response from all who participated, either as guests or presenters. We served approximately 350 meals over a 5 hour period and made contact with hundreds of souls who now connect the building and people at 1161 Grant Street with help and HOPE.
We are preparing now for next year. Pray for the Harvest!
